Silly post-Matrix noir with that tongue-in-cheek grandiose writing you'd expect from the genre in 2001. It's really at odds with itself, matching that with an extremely gritty conspiracy narrative that really asks you to be invested in it. It works well enough, as it at least held my attention enough for me to finish the game, but it never really overcomes that contradiction.

The gunplay would be acceptable for the era if it wasn't such a one hit kill savescumming mess. Don't get me wrong, there are small tactical moments that do end up pretty cool, but most of the time the combat system feels like it's held together by bubblegum. Platforming segments are absolutely horrid and sometimes unmarked. Particularly awful are the dreamlike psychological scenes where comparatively precise platforming breaks up and completely kills the impact of what could be the most emotional sequences in the game.
