Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Who’s the cheapest spin-off of Them All?

The Idolmaster: Shiny Festa - Funky Note is one out of three Idolm@ster spinoffs that pretty much worked like Idolm@ster SP but instead of being a raising sim, it's a rhythm game and none predicted that this entry would change the future of console IM@s forever...

Game is quite simple, it's a rhythm game that kinda works like Taiko, only two lanes, either hit left or right when they reach the "hit point", it's honestly a pretty simple rhythm game and doesn't require inhuman skills to beat, if you can even beat this game that is...
Is it like really hard to finish this game or something? Not at all, what I meant is that there isn't much of a goal to work toward, this game has a freeplay mode which lets you play any song with the difficulty you want, the second game mode, on the other hand, is the most story mode you'll get out of this game.

Star of Festa (SoF) has very short cutscenes and pretty much just is "Play 3 songs per in-game day to get a total of 100,000 points for the best ending". There's no strategy to that, just play well, you can also get hearts by playing in freeplay mode with a certain Idol and these hearts can appear in a SoF song to earn more points, that's kinda it.

And this game features a similar ranking system as the previous games, here you just need to play songs and the more you play the more fans you get and earning ranks is... useless? All it does is unlock items in the store for you to buy like custom hud icons during the rhythm parts, so yeah it's a waste of time.

Ah, and each of the games features an exclusive OVA episode of the show featuring the character of said game, neat.

The negative part of the game is that there's nothing rendered via the console, it's just pre-rendered clip from Idolm@ster 2 in 480p that really doesn't help the cash grab allegations, the lack of content, and the pokemon type release also doesn't help, even if it used the gross graphics from IM@S SP at least I could've said "They tried" but here it just feels like they just crammed mp4 in a PSP and called it a day.
Overall it's not bad, it's fun, it's a basic rhythm game, but man it's lackluster.

My ranking would be
Funky Note > Honey Sound > Groovy Tune

Did you play the 360 Idolmaster games? Any thoughts as someone who has played a bunch?

I have yes, honestly I’m not a big fan of the raising sim with a deadline, Idolmaster 1 is way too stressful and repetitive and supposedly the sequel is pretty much the same though I only used Idolmaster 2 for its dance for you mode because it’s dope and looks cute.
I guess my recommendation would be one for all on ps3, it’s a good mix of all previous imas games into one, I haven’t finished it personally because it’s a bit mindless grind but it’s fun, I’m about 30 hours in and I’ll eventually write a review once I get to the top. (It also has a full English translation)
And if you actually do care about the full raising sim with a deadline thing you should check out the Idolmaster SP games which are just Pokemon-like releases of a demake of Idolmaster 1, the main difference is that you can only raise one of 3 girls per entry with one of them being a rival so it’s not a full demake and still its own thing and it’s just more fun to play than the 360 version (and has a partial English translation)
