The new global events are a good addition but the new buildings are only unlocked as time progresses and practically force you to demolish old ones. This discourages building anything in the first few decades because it will just be demolished in favour of a 'modern' building later. It also results in an ugly mosaic of traditional and modern style buildings on the island which ruins the Cuban aesthetic of the game.
