Everyone and their moms hate the runey system, and for good reason. Conceptually it's actually really cool, but the execution is... unfortunately bad. I'd be lying if I said I never had fun collecting and placing runeys, but the downfall of this is that it takes so long and it needs to be done so constantly that it results in an unbalance between other (more fun) activities in the game.

With that being said, game is SO relaxing. The atmosphere is so calming, so healing, so charming and charismatic. It suffers from a problem a lot of games in this genre do, which is you can pretty easily get to the point in which you have access to virtually everything, therefore nullifying almost any challenge. These issues would only be resolved in a deeper manner in the series magnum opus, Rune Factory 4, however Frontier stands out among the rest as well because of an unique trait: instead of the incredibly fun fast-paced style of gameplay adopted starting from RF3, Frontier takes a more calming approach to the farming sim genre. Everything is done slowly, which may not work for a lot of people, but it made me sink in deep into the world they built in here.

I'll probably play this game again in my life, but next time... with the runey hack on dolphin, lol. Also, Rosetta and Anette are best girls, COULD NOT choose between them so I stopped playing before marriage lol! Oh and I have to say, they kind of butchered Mist here, she used to be a lot more funny in RF1 but oh well.
