still holds up from when i last played it two years ago (lol) but considering it came out in 2004 it's still pretty decent. while the shotgun and darkness aren't liked by many, they both add tension to the now more emphasized horror. main downsides aside from id's writing and a lame final boss are the overabundances of ammo which makes for a weirdly generous ammo economy, linear level design of a lot of hallways, and, i'll give the doom 3 naysayers half a point, the somewhat (keyword: somewhat) inconsistent shotgun. still though, the game does a good job at what it set out to do imo and the dedication to immersion is commendable.
