Oozing with style, Ape Out creates such a beautiful cacophony of Jazz, colors, and violence. It's a simple but compelling premise of a primate searching for his freedom, and his brief but entertaining journey was enough for me to walk away with a smile on my face and a solid 3.5 star rating in hand. That was of course, until I tried the "Break In" game mode as well as hard difficulty, which turned my "This is fun" into a "Oh yeah this fucks". Cranking up the intensity really allows Ape Out's simple but explosive combat to shine and the frustration of repeatedly dying at the very end of a 5 minute "Break In" run was worth it when I finally escaped.
