As of writing this review, I have just completed Chapter 9, since this is supposedly the "peak" of this game from what I've been told. Honestly, I'm not sure what I expected. This game combines 2 things that I hate - open worlds and Action RPGs so I really shouldn't have gotten my hopes up lol. While the story is fine enough so far, no amount of good writing can save this abysmal faux-MMO gameplay. In addition to having a good story, games should also actually be fun, which I feel many devs seem to forget lol. I'm unsure whether or not I'll keep playing because I feel really tempted to just finish it by watching a YouTube playthrough or something - all I can say is that I don't think I've felt this bored playing a video game in a while.

Sorry Zetta, but this game is fucking ass lmao.

I recommend turning Casual Mode in the settings and just focusing on the story if you feel this way. It makes battles more action-y and less restrictive and difference in levels less noticeable so you'll have more fun actually fighting and not getting ready for the fights (tho some battles will still require specific gem builds). And this game only feels "MMO-like" when you drop story to focus only on sides, so it's something to keep in mind.

Atl you recognize that you can’t have one without the other. I have my own issues with XC1’s gameplay, but it’s still a sad sight. If I had to describe the gameplay compared to the other three: It’s the first game. I think Xenoblade X might be what youre looking for, even though it’s still open world and action RPG.
