a great game in that it started the pokémon franchise, but as a game on its own it’s not the greatest. it’s extremely glitchy(which in itself is a bit of an appeal due to how infamous and intricate they are), don’t have many of the quality of life features future games had(such as special physical move split of gen 4 or actual ghost type moves[let alone ones that properly worked on psychic types]). if you want to get into the pokémon franchise, it’s better to start with a later game, such as platinum or emerald. you can play the games later on if you like, but considering gen one has not one but TWO different remakes, you don’t really need to play it aside from a cool perspective of how pokémon used to be
