I feel like I should have hated this. Weird thing to say, but with it's entirely unsubtle imagery and ideas, along with an uneven narrative that doesn't fully deliver, this really feels like something I should dislike. I don't, though, which makes this all the more perplexing. This world realized within the game feels like a rabbit hole, or rather, a kid learning about the world for the first time - it inhabits that kind of wonder, which makes the story all the more interesting. I get the ideas, but I'm still not entirely sure what angle they're going for here - escapism? Schizophrenia? A story within a story? A metanarrative? There's undoubtedly a lot to unpack here. It's provoking, in a word. That, combined with striking character designs, poignant music, and a cliffhanger conclusion makes me excited, and a little tenacious, to play the final installment.
