I can’t fathom why this mess received the Game of the Year award. The optimization is seriously flawed, and despite numerous updates, it still fails to achieve stability—even on 9th-generation consoles. Playing it on 8th-gen consoles feels like subjecting oneself to torture, with occasional frame drops as low as 20 FPS.

I believe people praise it because they find satisfaction in completing the game or defeating bosses, perhaps compensating for their mundane lives. If you look at the fanbase, this becomes evident.

Graphically and in terms of animation quality, it resembles the 7th generation. The animations are particularly abysmal. Characters move like logs, and feeling the impact of weapons—a crucial aspect for enjoyable gameplay—is lacking in Elden Ring.

Many extol the game’s open world and sense of exploration. However, truth be told, the praised open world isn’t significantly different from a typical Ubisoft open world. If they had followed the same structure, ‘The Division’ would have been a close example.

After the Game of the Year award given to the lackluster ‘God of War’ in 2018, I’ve become skeptical of these accolades. The Goty award for Elden Ring only reinforces my skepticism.

The ‘Souls’ genre, with its aimless progression and unclear motives, should ideally fade away soon. Those who praise its difficulty likely started gaming during the casual era around 2010. Claiming this game is hard would be an insult to previous generations’ games like Ninja Gaiden.
