One of the best games to have simple and mindless fun with friends.
Amazing availability, runs on almost any PC, is often on sale at 90% off, and it was also free some years ago, so if you have an old steam account there's a chance you claimed it back then.
While the main campaign is not that long (even with L4D1's campaign also included), the AI Director makes every playthrough slightly different than previous ones. However, with some help of the Steam Workshop and the talented modders and mappers from the community, you have plenty of new campaigns to play with different skins, models, sound effects, etc.
Now, I REALLY recommend you to play with friends you know instead of using public servers, as they're a huge mess of ads, tryhards, jarring custom content and commands that the experience you get from them is completely different from what it was intended.
As a last thing, the sound design of this game is incredibly well done for a 2009 game. The game plays musical cues whenever a special infected is nearby, when a horde is approaching, and plays a chaotic but perfect theme whenever there's an ongoing horde event.
The voice acting and dialogue between the characters is also really good, especially after "The Last Stand" update that restored multiple voice lines that were cut from the main game before release, that still fit as if they were always there.
