i love insomniac’s spider-man and miles morales so dearly. personally this is my favorite interpretation and protrayal of peter parker and i love this version of the supporting cast. this miles is also up there with the spider-verse movies as a fantastic version of the character that elevates the source material in my opinion. with two solid games under their belt i felt confident that insomniac could live up to the high expectations and give us another fantastic spider-man experience and i am so happy to say that is exactly the case!!!

this is a banger ass game. swift, lean, and exciting, i thoroughly enjoyed my time with peter and miles and the city. the pacing was great and it feels wonderful to play such a high production value game about one of my favorite super heroes of all time.

i was worried that they couldnt juggle both spider-men and in some ways the balance felt off but i really felt both of them had great stories, cool costumes and great gameplay variety. giving side objectives exclusive to both of them went a long way to helping them feel like they had their own stake in the story and city. the story definitely skews towards peter and thats to be expected, but miles own journey of revenge and compromise felt just as interesting to me. i also loved the MJ sections as having options for combat instead of insta failing stealth makes them so much more fun!

i like how the game started slow and let you feel the bond harry and peter have before launching headfirst into the story. i especially loved the flashback sequence at midtown high, and getting to explore the emily-may foundation on foot and seeing every inch of it goes a long way in providing impact when big things happen there.

sandman was an excellent opening, i LOVE the little crystal rocks you crack open. the adaptive triggers and satisfying shatter sounds from the controller are on of the most satisfying things ever. and the hunters were a fun challenge and having them literally swallowed by the symbiote for the final act was a fun way to propel things forward. at some segments the linear nature of the story felt a little limiting but i think i have to remind myself that not every game has to be choice-rich with a thousand story options like BG3 which i just finished haha. being focused and linear and well polished is just as valid of an avenue.

i did feel some combat encounters lasted a little too long, but that was only a couple here and there. overall the variety in combat scenarios and ways you can resolve them was honestly greatly expanded from the previous games. finding the weaknesses of the different hunter bases and the tower defense style of the symbiote nests are great examples of this. the free flow combat also has seen some great additions with the different abilities and the streamlining of gadgets and it all comes together to what is definitely the best version of this system theyve done. also the surprise playable character popping up was SO SICK i loved it. the boss fights and parry mechanics also were a blast, a big step up from before.

this game is also stunning, the city looks better than ever, the ps5 also makes the city feel so alive with tons of pedestrians and cars and every scene is packed with gorgeous stuff. i found myself often pausing to take screenshots with the excellent photo mode. i love how wonderful this game looks.

also, GOD the TRAVERSAL! the speedup makes a huge difference and the addition of the slingshot, loop-de-loop and webwings go a long way in making it feel more involved. one thing i always wished in the first two games was a way to keep horizontal momentum and the webwings are the perfect answer to this issue. insane that they put the coolest fast travel in the game where i never ever wanna use it.

overall i can say i absolutely loved this game. i have some minor gripes with it but they dont get close to marring the otherwise fantastic time i had with this game. makes me absolutely insane with hype that these guys are handling mutants next. thank you insomniac, keep up the fantastic work!
