So I heard Alan Wake II is really good.
Sometimes in life you have to play Alan Wake to get to Alan Wake II. (Sometimes that’s figurative but it’s literal in this case)
Around Alan Wake’s release I was really interested in it but never got around to it, now that I have, what do I think?
I love the cinematic qualities, love the episodes ending and the recaps at the start. The story and writing at times felt not the best, particularly at the beginning, but by the end either it all starts to really work or I just loved it from being lost in it.
Gameplay wise, the flashlight is cool, but combat encounters overstay their welcome early. Dodging is not good enough, enemy variety is bad, and there is a lack of interesting encounters for humanoid enemies as the game goes on. Also fuck the objects. It’s sad because the DLC showed some interesting encounters.
Quick note on the setting, love the foggy Pacific Northwest small town and forest vibe.
