I'd consider myself somewhat of a fan of rhythm games and boy does Taiko no Tatsujin DX fall into that category. While I don't appreciate beating the hell out of my PSP buttons to ensure I hit every note or get the greatest number of drumbeats during a solo, that was hardly my main concern when playing this absolute gem. Playing through a song in this game feels almost like a fever dream. There are color splashes and insane characters popping out of every corner of the screen, notes flying at high speeds, the roaring of musical notes, and a constant bombardment of Japanese exclamations and song lyrics that I can’t begin to understand. It is a lot, but it is absolutely worth it. The song variety in this game is also great, there is everything from classical music to my favorite track from the Yakuza series – Machine Gun Kiss. I doubt I’ll play every song available on the base game, not to mention the nearly 100 tracks available in the DLC, but I won’t be putting this down anytime soon since it is such a phenomenal little time waster. If you have the chance to pick this up then don’t hesitate. You may not understand Japanese, but it won’t take away from your enjoyment of this fabulous rhythm game.
