Some of the changes it made to the original were rather controversial but I love how much content it added. The game ended up much easier but with the option to replay it repeatedly (at ever-increasing difficulties). The characters are fleshed out a lot more, and so does the main story (which was rudimentary in the original). The three extra characters were probably the most controversial addition given how unbalanced they were, but one can always ignore them anyway.
