I think this is easily the best written COD campaign, where it doesn't feel so jingoist like anything post MW3 and actually has some really affecting moments that make you question why you are doing what you are doing. No other COD game dares venture into doing that anymore.
Outside of the story, I also have a deep love for this game's multiplayer and believe that it, alongside Halo 3, is probably the most influential game when it comes to the modern state of PVP games in the industry. The guns are relatively well balanced and provide a good amount of options; the maps are all certified classics, unlike later COD games where if you get anything besides Shipment or that one map you like you grit your teeth. The private servers back in the day really created a great sense of community that seems kind of dead these days.
I'd say that this is worth picking up for cheap for the campaign alone, but if you can find a way to make multiplayer for for you it is a no brainer.
