a beautiful and whimsical exploration of a personal topic. the sense of place it creates at times is otherworldly -- the way music, visuals, and level design come together is wonderful. however, the level design isn't always great. while levels like building the tower of houses are incredible, there are others like moving the monster on the bed which are time consuming and just not fun. the visuals aren't any worse doing these parts, but it felt like an uninspired 3d platformer of its time. thankfully, most of the time, it is not that way.

i also have gripes with the ending, and i believe the way they took it is really strange, but overall i really enjoyed papo & yo.
