the story was nice. I really liked the tie in to Mafia 1. the biggest complaint I have is that it didn't feel like I was a gangster in the mafia until about chapter 9 or 10 out of 15. it was a very slow burn until it cranked the heat up to 100 in the last few chapters.

the overall open city of Empire Bay has more to do in it unlike Mafia 1 which was so narrative driven that I didn't see anything you could do besides drive around, which I liked very much.

the game was very buggy with the audio levels being either too loud during cutscenes or too quiet during gameplay. the landscape or minimap would occasionally flicker, textures would sometimes flicker to red or blue, and some models in cutscenes got hilariously glitchy.

the combat started to get really annoying in the later segments of the game because I would get gunned down by the air if I wasn't behind cover. another issue is the food. I could never find food to replenish my max health so I was constantly at 75% of my max health for a majority of the game.

to add to the frustrating combat, the checkpoint system is also just as frustrating simply because it didn't checkpoint enough especially when the entire game, as far as I'm aware, is entirely reliant on auto-save. I'd go through a majority of a combat section and then I'd usually get sent back to the beginning of that section because I died from a random goon spawning in front of me and erasing me with a tommy gun in 2 seconds.

I like Tommy more but Vito is cool protag.
