Donkey Kong Country is a fantastic game! The graphics and music are incredible even today. There was no time limit which is cool, especially for a game released in 1994. The level design was great, with each level introducing a gimmick early into the level then expanding on it later in the same level. A prime example of this level philosophy is the level “Vulture Culture” which introduces you to the gimmick of using barrels to boost off birds to get to new platforms. Later in the level, it expands on that gimmick with it adding moving birds to blast to, hornets that you have the parkour around, etc.
The bosses in this game were simple, with the bosses following the formula of “dodge then hit”. My personal favorite boss was King K. Rool, who had his own unique song that was unique to any of the other bosses, he was difficult, and had a fake out win screen which is super cool. The main things I disliked about this game were the random difficulty spikes, and the camera. The camera was normal for most of the game, but sometimes it hindered some platforming, an example of the camera being bad is the entire level of torchlight trouble.
