Nihon Falcom has quickly become one of my favorite developers, having introduced me to now two jrpg franchises that i've become a fan of. first was YS, and now, trails of cold steel!

One thing I want to get out of the way is that I don't think Cold Steel excels at anything, which is why this game is just barely 4 1/2 stars for me. It's combat is good and challenging, it's characters and role playing elements are decent, and it's story is just alright in all honesty.

But my main draw towards Cold Steel was its presentation and accessibility. The management of progression in Cold Steel allowed the game to be both very consumable while simultaneously challenging and stimulating. Once you finish the first two chapters, you already know the exact structure of the rest of the remaining five chapters, and the game will just fly by. All in all, this was one of the quickest 90 hours (includes nearly every side-quest) I've played for a single video game.

By 30 hours in , i already knew I wanted to play the rest of the games, but with that ending, like with what YS VIII accomplished, Cold Steel ENSURED my already established desire to see this entire franchise all the way through. In terms of story, the ending established that this first game in the Cold Steel saga has been extensive set-up for what's really to come in the next installments, which means the story can see improvement moving forward. can't wait to play 2!
