Trails of Cold Steel didn't need to do much to improve on its predecessor; advanced the story more than just the drip feed we got in the first game, and Cold Steel II did exactly that! I liked seeing the numerous characters introduced in 1 FINALLY see payoff in 2. For that alone, it's an instant improvement.
Cold Steel II also saw a slightly better soundtrack, alongside a LARGE cast of playable characters, which was cool.
With that said, I can totally understand if people don't like this game. The characterization can be hollow, the side quests are simple, and some scenes and dialogue are SUPER cheesy.
2 is much more of the same as 1, and if you didn't like 1, I wouldn't suggest playing 2. I loved 1, so I also loved 2. Can't wait to play the rest!
