I’ve recently made it a goal of mine to finally make a dent in my video game backlog, but more specifically, I want to finish a lot of the games I got when I was in elementary and middle school. So with Scribblenauts Unlimited up next on the list, I booted up and started finishing the last few levels. However, once I completed them, I realized I had even more to play in the form of “object shards”. It’s basically a list of tiny tasks that can be completed throughout the course of the game.

At first it seemed like it was gonna take less than an hour, but then I quickly noticed that there were over 200 tasks to do. And then I came to the insane realization that the tasks were all post game stuff to 100% the game and I had ALREADY BEATEN THE GAME years ago.

So after all of that, I kind of felt like I wasted my time. However, I decided to continue 100%ing the game, and to be honest, I didn’t mind it! The last tasks were mainly just creating cool vehicles and weapons I hadn’t seen in the game yet. It took VERY long completing the last 200 tasks though and I definitely wouldn’t have done it if I knew I had already beaten the game.

But reviewing the game as a whole, I liked it! It isn’t the kind of game you should play for multiple hours at a time though. It gets pretty repetitive after an hour or two because each level has the exact same format for completing tasks. So playing it in small doses is your best bet. Sometimes the main levels are either too vague to provide the right answers or just too predictable. But when the game challenges you and doesn’t limit your answers it’s really fun. Just the idea of the game itself makes it work so well, and I enjoyed it for what it’s worth. Creating random stuff and playing around sandbox style is an equally fun option. But overall, this was a decent puzzle game that does a lot with its core idea.
