Fromsoft is the closest I can think of. DS1 is one if not the most influential games of the decade, Bloodborne is considered a masterpiece, Dark Souls 2 and 3 were amazing followups, and Sekiro is just soulslike combat fine tuned to perfection.
But yeah late 90s Square was a freaking powerhouse and this is one of if not my favorite games from them during that era.
