I'm not sure why this game received such a negative review and hate. I really like the combat... That said I did not know it would be this type of game. It was marketed as a spirtual successor to Dead Space and it is not. It is a tense sci-fi brawler. It did not live up to my expectations because I had the wrong expectations. And it's not a masterpiece by any means, but it's really really polished, the battles are thrilling, the tempo is nice, and it makes fantastic use of the Dualsense. The brutality and difficulty of the combat and the encounters made this VERY tense for me (and not from survival horror mechanics like I expected). On the other hand, the characters are uninteresting, and the conclusion overwhelms the player and leaves no open-ended questions... So, it does conclude on a negative tone. Even worse, I'm not sure how the tale could realistically go on unless the gameplay is completely altered. A brief DLC is definitely feasible, but a sequel is not? idk.. In general though its a good horror pickup. As much as I enjoy being afraid, some horror games have lost their capacity to frighten me, therefore I can't say how scary this is. (specifics do scare the shit out of me lol). For just being a fulfilling and enjoyable science fiction frolic without any unnecessary filler... It totally rocks and I really enjoyed playing it. However its just not like the first Dead Space which had a compelling narrative and a gameplay type I was expecting from this. Buckle up though if you'd enjoy whacking melty face zombies with a bat till their arms fall off. Which I did.
