absolutely gorgeous game, they really nailed the combo of expressive 2D sprites on pixel-textured 3D environments. it struggles with pacing near the end, imo, but the rest of the game's charms win me over. the voice acting is incredibly natural, and if you play with auto-advance on, it actually sounds like it would in a show or movie instead of the awkward pauses you get between lines in most games. combat is fine, nothing special and mostly reasonable. really fantastically charming game.

i had the PSX version back when i was a kid and i never got very far in it, so it feels like a bit of personal closure to finally cross it off the list.
