so right after putting out the pretty unremarkable triple deluxe, kumazaki binged the entirety of Gurren Lagann and the entire megaman x series all in one day and burst through hal laboratories' doors with a grand idea.

planet robobot is pretty much as masterful as 2d kirby gets imo. whereas rtdl and triple deluxe had issue with their main Big Shiny Power-Up gimmick being more Wait For Shit To Happen spectacle than actually fun to use, the robobot is an absolute treat to handle making you feel real fuckin powerful. think the ride armors from megaman x, the eighth game specifically - now crank that shit up to 11 and give it kirby abilities and a giga drill break. the robobot's controls especially have this real fun flow to it that makes you feel like you're piloting a force to be reckoned with crushing enemies under your foot but without feeling like a mechanical hard-to-control deadweight. on top of that the usual kirby stuff is as well done and fun as it usually is (jesus christ the new abilities are broken), and the robobot is integrated into the gameplay loop well to where it doesn't feel like a pace breaker at all. something triple deluxe wish it accomplished. I'm talkin to you hypernova.

I also wanna give a shoutout to moments like the factory level which really give off this mechanically hopeless vibe, showing how planet popstar really has been reduced to nothing but a mechanical wasteland - accentuated heavily by the return of "studying the factory" from kirby 64; a reminder of a certain snow-covered planet that shared a similar fate. atmosphere isn't something that I usually praise in a kirby game because save for the final boss they don't usually go all out on it, but planet robobot has a good amount of moments like this and I wanted to bring attention to it. dunno where to put this but give robobot's ost a listen as a whole, hands-down it is my favorite in the franchise right next to dreamland 3.

planet robobot is just a lot of fun man. and so is kirby in general, really. I'm not as crazy about kirby as I used to be mainly because I moved onto franchises with higher highs and whatnot, but it still holds a special place in my heart for just being a fun time more often than not, regardless of how simple it may be usually. robobot's kind of emblematic of that sort of vibe, or however you'd word that. it's nearly 10pm it's not the right time to be a wordsmith, I even gave up using proper capitalization in this review. but I like kirby and I wanted to talk about kirby. tis all. now get in the robobot kirby or adeleine will have to pilot it

I'll finish 64 one of these days by the way.
