Quick Review

I've played a few over the shoulder 3rd Person survival horror games (RE, Dead Space, etc...) and this is probably the most difficult one I've played. I'd died 99 times by the end of the game and I was playing on the Survivor (normal) difficulty.

Most of the game seems to be intent on making things difficult and challenging. Ammo and recovery items are very sparse with the exceptions of the matches which I seem to get a lot of. Just when I felt like I had an abundance of ammo or supplies, they quickly get drained from an encounter. There's a lot of enemy ambushes with large numbers and many traps that can instant kill you.

Combat is fine for the most part, but fast agile enemies can be annoying when you can't maneuver around very well. There isn't even a dodge roll button.

The story is interesting despite having only understand the basic idea of it. There's a lot of confusing moments that just goes over my head.

I like the upgrade system, but just disliked the small amounts of green gel you get for upgrading things.

The game's max fps is 30 on my PS5 which is disappointing for an action game.

The best parts of the game are the atmosphere, tone and horror elements which is pretty consistent for most of the game except during combat when it feels like a typical 3rd person shooter at times.

The Kidman DLC aren't that good mostly because the gameplay wasn't very fun. They are 90% stealth where she doesn't have any weapons. It was a pain to play through at times and the additional story elements wasn't particularly worth it in my opinion. The horror elements are still good though.

The Executioner DLC on the other hand was fun to play through, but felt like it was even more lacking in the story side.
