About a year ago, I'd experienced my first SoS with FoMT. It was a great and fun experience that I got the Platinum trophy for it.

I heard that PoOT isn't as well received, but I did kept an opened mind. The opening hours weren't as thrilling because I didn't really like Olive Town itself nor the townspeople much. The layout and design of the tourist town didn't feel comfy. The NPCs didn't seem as interesting either.

After about 5-10 hours, I really got hooked with the game. I got a newfound appreciation for the NPCs. They weren't really bad for the most part and there is some depth to their characters. I really liked about 1/3 of them, thought the other 1/3 were good and the remaining 1/3 were just okay.

The farm mechanics itself was pretty solid and felt streamlined compared to FoMT. Tools have their own separate bag which can be moved back and forth to the regular bag. Tools no longer requires EXP to upgrade so just haven't the necessary materials are enough.

Sprinklers can be crafted quite early in the game so watering becomes a non-issue quickly.

I don't like the storage system though. While it is convenient in a way to be able to make storage boxes and put them wherever, their capacity is too small compared to the many items in the game. It can also be hard to remember where certain items were stored.

The mounts like horses no longer can be called to you and they don't appear on the map screen so there are times I forgot where I left them.

Probably the best part about the game is being able to customize your farm. I turned the large wasteland of trees, grasses, rocks and converted them into slick roads and structures. I do wished there were more things to add onto the farm because other than some tables, roads, lights, and about a handful of topiaries, there's not much else. It could also use a builder mode where you have a bird-eye's view of the farm to rearrange things. Oftentimes I would create pathways and structures that ended up conflicting with something so I had to remove them. That's just a waste of time.

One of the my least favorite part about FoMT were the mines. Fortunately, PoOT's mines are much more manageable to explore and easier to avoid pitfalls. They are also shorter too. The electric moles in the last mine are annoying, but not enough for me to hate the mines here. Not much RNG to deal with.

Speaking of RNG, it's less of an issue in general except for creating top quality dishes. No need for save scumming for anything else otherwise.

Town events are okay, but compared to FoMT, do feel lacking. There isn't even a New Year's event here.

The music here is surprisingly good especially for character themes.

Probably the worst part about PoOT is the dreaded makers. There's a ton in the game and you need a bunch of them out and active at a time. Ones like lumbar and ingots need multiple just to be efficient since they are used for nearly everything and serve as the main "story" gates.

Overall, PoOT is a fun game especially when it comes to customizing the farm. The characters aren't as interesting as FoMT for me and the town itself lacks the same feeling of warmth and coziness.
