Humor is so tough to get right, especially in a game, so I can really respect what the developers were going for in This Way Madness Lies. Unfortunately, it didn't hit for me. The jokes didn't feel particularly clever, relying a bit too much on the zany-ness of the concept and characters for me to find it funny. The gameplay itself is fine enough, however I did take issue with some aspects of the design. The battle system is relatively straightforward, though its systems don't seem to interact smoothly. There's a charge meter that fills up individually per character, increasing strength of abilities, however it's challenging to actually plan out what attacks you'll be able to use given this meter can change the properties of your abilities. The stats for your characters are all associated with traits that you can pick, however the issue is that the latest traits you unlock always have the best stats, so there's no point in equipping traits you like. I was just always equipping the three most recent traits. Lastly, I felt like this game could really have used a map -- the areas were pretty same-y so it was a little annoying to not be able to easily tell where I'd already been.
