While the gameplay is fun, and the atmosphere is incredibly well built, a lot of fear factor is taken away from a general sense that it feels unpolished. The movement is just kind of clunky, and even though it's meant to be played in multiplayer, seeing other people's models almost makes it funny. It's still very fun to play, just not as scary as it could be.
