American Idol

released on Nov 07, 2003

Complete with a computer generated Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell, with trademark insults, American Idol is a music-based, rhythm-action game that will allow you to create, style, and train a contestant for the competition. Once styled and trained you'll see your contestant progress through the auditions, various heats, and then, hopefully, make it to the grand final. You'll need quick fingers as you match the right combination of buttons to what's displayed on the screen helping your contestant sing a sweet harmony and dance to the rhythm of the song. Get it wrong and your voice fades and goes out of tune as the judges and later the audience grow unsettled.

Both PS2 and GBA versions are good for something short and a quick laugh. But very limited character customization, plus they never explain the thumbs up/thumbs down score they give you on your character's style after every level

The GBA version of American Idol is one of the funniest games to exist, is competent at being a rhythm game, and has a bunch of midi covers of extremely 2000s songs that are compressed to hell. I don’t see how anyone could be disappointed with this package.

This actually plays ok on the gba lmao, but it does have a terrible sense of "rhythm" and the fact that you have to dress up your character in a way that the judges like but they don't tell you the criteria is really janky

American Idol... a bunch of bull... Mainstream music 🤮

I remember renting this twice from Blockbuster.
