A port of Hokuto no Ken

Black Belt is a side-scrolling single-plane beat 'em up game released for the Master System in 1986. It is a localization of the Japanese Mark III game, Hokuto no Ken, based on the manga and anime series of the same name (which would later be published as Fist of the North Star in English). The export version was released without the Hokuto no Ken license, forcing graphic alterations to the game. Black Belt was one of programmer Yuji Naka's early games prior to his involvement in Sonic the Hedgehog.

This game has some killer boss battles that still get my blood pumping! The soundtrack is an absolute banger – I'm still jamming to it years later. Despite being basic and repetitive, if you love a good challenge and a catchy beat, give it a try.

A very basic and rather repetitive brawler. That said, a game where you can kick eagles so hard that they shatter can't be all bad.

I played the Japanese version, Hokuto no Ken, as I'm a fan of the manga. While I had a hard time controlling Kenshiro and attacking foes, this game seems promising if I put more time into it. I watched a long play on youtube, and the game is very satisfyingly close to the major events of the manga. I'm no good at it now, and thus I have not played very far into the game, but I'd say what I've played was decently enjoyable, and I must commend the rest of the game I've seen for its accuracy.

I wonder how many people figured out the weaknesses of the later bosses without watching the Hokuto no Ken anime this western localization removed the license of, to know from beforehand that for example, the guy that replaces Souther here (the boss of chapter 5) needs to be hit in the back to damage him

A solid yet simple sidescolling brawler. Very basic in terms of everything but a fun game for what it is. Comparable to kung fu but lacks the significance that kung fu brought to the scene. Was originally a Fist of the North star game before being localized and thats pretty cool. Would of been much cooler if they didnt change the name though.
