Chip's Challenge is a top-down tile-based puzzle video game originally published in 1989 by Epyx as a launch title for the Atari Lynx. It was later ported to several other systems and was included in the Windows 3.1 bundle Microsoft Entertainment Pack 4 (1992), and the Windows version of the Best of Microsoft Entertainment Pack (1995), where it found a much larger audience. The original game was designed by developer Chuck Sommerville, who also made about a third of the levels. Most of the conversions from the Atari Lynx original to other formats were carried out by Images Software in the UK. The game was re-released on Steam on May 28, 2015, along with a sequel, Chip's Challenge 2, which was also designed by Sommerville.

I must’ve played a weird ripoff of this back in the 90s. A great update and gamification of something like Atari’s Adventure, but cranking the “level design” knob all the way up.

Probably the most successful game from the Lynx?

This one had multiple ports on other platforms. It's a fun puzzler with nice level variance throughout. Sadly, as you get to more difficult levels, you'll be spending minutes on a puzzle, only to accidently push a block you needed and you'll have to restart the whole level.

Might be one for quick save/save states on modern hardware/emulation!

Quite fun anyway, worth a look!

Playing Through My Evercade Collection Part 14: Atari Lynx Collection 2

Ok I should get back to this and lets start the second Lynx pack with this behemoth of a game. At its core, its a pretty frantic action puzzler where you race around, collecting computer chips, avoiding enemies and solving puzzles and you know what, its pretty darn fun, there's a HUGE variety in the levels themselves and the mix of music and speed helps things move along quickly.

That said the game does have one BIG problem and that's its difficulty because the game just loves randomly bitchslapping you at random after you've waltzed through three easy levels, then chucking something like Blobnet at you which can absolutely wear out your time, patience and save states.

That said, the game is at least kind enough to realise how punishing it can be and doesn't bother with things like lives, continues or even requiring you to actually complete a level to move on as if you fail too many times, it'll happily let you skip through to the next level with just a point penalty as punishment.

So ultimately, despite the bone crushing difficulty the game presents, I would absolutely recommend this thanks to how accessible it's made itself.
