A surprisingly decent Sonic clone that's really only held back by the fact that it's on Game Gear. As such, it suffers from screen crunch and dropped inputs (or at least what felt like dropped inputs consistently enough).

The character is surprisingly versatile for a GG standards- he can slide, wall jump, slide and power up a Wario-like shoulder barge that is more or less this game's spin dash. The visuals are also really good for the handheld.

There is an unofficial port to the Master System on SMSPower under their "hacks" section. I decided to try it out for myself on a Mega Everdrive and, for the most part, it works well. Better field of view with some glitched graphics as the tradeoff- especially in round 5. Just be sure to plug a second controller in, as "down" on its d-pad acts as the start button.

An interestingly fun title that was handled by the same devs behind the Sonic Game Gear games. Screen crunch aside with not being able to see what's below you in later levels, this game has a great sense of mobility and speed, bosses are piss easy. A fun time nonetheless though, defs up there with favorite Game Gear games.

The GG Sonic devs got to make a not-Sonic platformer with Sonic's brand of shmoovement, and it's honestly better than the GG Sonic games in some ways. You got this heavier slower platforming mixed in with wall jumps, slides and a power dash. I think your default speed being slower makes this a lot more condusive to the GG screensize. Low points are the music isn't as good as Sonic, the bosses are all laughably easy, and it ends a good zone sooner than I assumed.

better than it has any right to be! those animations are crisp, dude...

the first time I pressed the jump button and little cokey did an airborne somersault, I yelled. the moment I discovered his super saiyan charge ability, I yelled louder.

research has led me to discover the rest of the games developed by the team behind Coca Cola Kid, Aspect Co. they made the Naruto: Ninja Council games! many of the 8-bit Sonic games for Master System and Game Gear came from them too, with the exception of Yuzo Koshiro's Ancient's Sonic the Hedgehog. neat! the competent and stylized platforming of Coca Cola Kid no longer comes as a surprise.
