Deemo II is the result of taking one of the greatest rhythm games ever made and it's relatively solid remake and trying to make a spiritual successor that borrows more from the likes of Genshin Impact if anything.

A title known for its small scale and personal experience is succeeded by a live service drowning in currencies, events, battle passes and inferior songs and charts to make an exhausting experience that has still yet to prove itself after so many years, proving time and time again that a live service lacking any engaging elements by virtue of being a live service isn't going to be improved by just having More Stuff patched into it.

Getting time gated in progression while playing the same few songs unlocked was not fun at all. One energy per hour is pretty absurd. Hell, I saw that last year that it was 1 energy for 2 HOURS! They had some things I can get by like the exploring and interaction with some of the people of the station and getting new charts from it sometimes was fun. The only annoying thing about finding them is that they only unlocked 1 difficulty for the song and I have to get the others for some reason. Maybe I am a bit spoiled with how many songs the first Deemo has gave me, but I got pretty bored and it just felt like a chore to get back on. Unlocking the song packs feels slow and they are expensive where it feels like you have to buy it. They have a whole battle pass (permanent but still) and that is the main way I have been unlocking the songs in this game. The raw gameplay was fine, but the game sometimes hiccupped and lag. At least it was also nice enough for wireless headphone users to have a calibration setting which I appreciate a lot, especially when we are entering a new era of phones not putting the headphone jack in. Overall, pretty dissapointed with the game. Some of the songs were pretty cool though. I forgot about the worst part about this game.... you can only play it online....

Beyond the game feeling like an overall downgrade from its predecessor, Rayark has decided to fire its art team in favor of AI generation. This is a spit in the face to the artists who poured their hearts into the gorgeous visuals of Deemo and Cytus. I won't be investing any more time or money into future Rayark releases. Fuck this company.

this rhythm game sure tries its hardest to make the player not play music in it with all its walking around, cutscenes, busywork, and a stamina system along with a battle pass and other f2p bullshit

might be fine once it gets a full console release one day since presumably all the crappy obligatory mobile parts of it won't be there anymore, though the calibration settings were also pretty bad so i worry those would remain the same

See there's a good game in there somewhere, but Rayark decided it'd be real funny if it was buried under more F2P rubble and chores than your average gacha game, and the resulting ''game'' is something I'd never wish even on my worst enemy. If you're a Deemo fan, please stay away from this at least until its story is finished - you'll thank me later.

very sad that they are forcing this kind of game to be some sort of live service game with also a battle pass. way too many microtransaction stuff and the aesthetics are a huge stepdown from the previous game. I also dislike that the notes kinda do not match at all in normal and easy difficulties, in the current ingame event you can only play songs in easy mode and its a huge borefest, damn, the notes dont even make any sfx when you tap them which is kind of misleading or unintuitive, at least to my taste. At least it features music from Mili. Maybe will update this as i progress thru the story,
