Zaxxon with an Egyptian skin.

I actually enjoyed this version of Desert Falcon. Once u get a handle on the controls it's a fun time.

filing this under "bland unplayable ports of games that actually look sick as hell on their original platform" next to crystal castles

I'm not much of a fan of isometric shmups but this one's OK I suppose. It's fairly similar to Zaxxon except that you're a falcon flying through ancient Egypt, blasting bugs and collecting hieroglyphs to gain powerups and bonus points, with each stage ending in a boss fight with a sphinx. As with a lot of isometric shooters, it's hard to gauge exactly where your shots are going and it's way too easy to accidentally run into enemies.

Considering it was originally developed in 1984 as a launch title for the 7800, it looks pretty nice with a fair amount of detail given the low resolution most 7800 games run at.

I still don't really like Desert Falcon all that much even on the 'good' version. There's still too many moments where its not clear perspective wise, the levels are still on the dull side and the gameplay isnt all that much, its at least somewhat playable now and there being an actual reason to collect icons outside of scoring is nice.

Still not one im going to replay ever.

Playing Through My Evercade Collection Part 1: Atari Vol 1

Christ this isn't fun. This is the Atari 2600 version and I honestly have no idea what Atari was playing at, still pumping out these low-rent versions of newer games when it had other consoles to sell. Its an ugly game, even by 2600 standards with mashed up scoring, bland gameplay and hitboxes that appear to have a mind of their own.
