A portable version of Dynasty Warriors released for the PSP in 2004 in Japan and in 2005 in North America and Europe, being one of the launch titles for this console in both North America and Japan. It adds new modes to the Dynasty Warrior franchise. Unlike previous games, it allows the player to have up to four deployable officers to accompany them during battle. These officers range from characters who are otherwise playable to generic officers with unique skills and traits.

Weird amalgamation of DW2's style of Musou Mode and DW4's character roster, only with weirdly segmented battlefields and a UI that takes up a third of the screen. I mean, it's not unplayable, and if this were the only PSP Musou game I'd have applauded them for getting 1 vs. 1000 action to work on the system at all, but seeing how polished and faithful of a PSP port Warriors Orochi 2 would later get does not do this game any favors. I like the reworked bodyguard system though, it's probably one of the only things that actually stands out in a good way about this release. Feels like a prototype for what DW8XL's bodyguards would later entail.
as far as dynasty warriors on the psp goes, this is probably the best they could have done...that being said, it's quite uncomfortable with just one analog control, but the actual gameplay mechanics with the having to go into different "sections" of the maps is pretty cool and i would like to see it in a proper console release at some point
