Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires

released on Mar 18, 2004

A standalone expansion of Dynasty Warriors 4

Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires is a strategy-oriented variant of Dynasty Warriors 4, mixing it with gameplay similar to Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The heart of the game, campaign mode, begins by choosing any of 24 regions and 42 rulers (custom characters can be created). Beginning with a small kingdom, the ultimate goal is the conquering of all others. Each turn, the player is given a choice from 4 different governing options (brought to your attention by your generals) followed by a single decision of action. These actions typically include the invasion or defense of a specific province or the option to aid an allied empire with those same actions.

Ah, this was a fun game and I remember I only had one location left to take and I never went after it. I think it was because my brain is a hummingbird and I found a new flower to take from that flower was Silent Hill 2.

GAMING

my fav version of 4 its so fun

As this was the first Empires game in the series I'll cut it a bit of slack, HOWEVER, due to the fact the game already had character customization the empire part of it really wasn't that special. Also, having played this after all the other empires games didn't make the experience any better.

Extremely simplistic strategy game vibes thrown on top of an addicting, light-weight, and shorter playtime variation on DW4's already solid formula. Great even if you're gonna do just the one run.

went back and played it after 5, was fun but never finished it.

The first 'Empires' spinoff for the series and.... No. I don't think it totally works here. Why? Well the game just doesn't have enough going for it in the content department to really make itself stand out than 'Just another flimsy sidemode'.

Sure the overall idea is good. Take the dynasty warriors battle formula and add very limited and loose 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms' strategy elements in between where you can enact policies to gain support, money, troops or alliances. Depending on your choices, people will love you, you'll be able to recruit or poach officers easier and trading will be more profitable. On the negative side, do more selfish actions and officers could defect mid-battle, you could have riots halting production and more.

It all sounds fine but the options provided are far too black and white in nature. Its all too easy to steamroll through everything with the minimal of effort and while some of the general gameplay is fun, it is still a warriors game after all, its just all too basic to keep anyone's attention for very long.
