The main mode in this latest installment in the Dynasty Warriors series is Story Mode, which follows the stories of the kingdoms of Wei, Wu, Shu, and Jin. This completely new story includes new episodes with all-new characters and takes an ever deeper look at the drama that unfolds in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms compared to previous titles in the series. There are also new "What If?" scenarios that take a look at what could have happened if famous characters of the time period had lived on to fight another day.

as far as the gameplay and the story modes go, this is by far the best game in the series, of which 8XL just adds to, everything from the previous games all built up to this and it all just clicked beautifully... getting the platinum was a blast, despite the massive grind
Although I did enjoy this one, burnout on the Musou games was creeping in for me around this time.
A game I really need to replay one of these days, loved it back in the day. A step up from 7 in quite a few ways, though I didn't love the story modes as much.
Played this in 2018, and I played it to death just like with DW5. Can't say I'm a Musou stan or that I'm super-attached to the characters, but the core hack'n'slash gameplay is just something I'm a sucker for.
