I feel obligated to inform people every time this happens but if you're looking to try out the GBA Gradius games, please try checking out the JP version, Gradius Generation. It adds in a bunch of unlockable challenge modes that aren't in the American release, and being a shmup, there is pretty much no language barrier to deal with.

As for the game itself, it's good, even as someone who's not much of a Gradius fan. The level design and bosses are super creative and are designed around the GBA incredibly well, and the difficulty was tough but fair.

I think this has got to be one of the most unique gradius games I've ever played. This game has a unique art style, all of the bosses in this game are unique; there's just too much "uniqueness" of this game for me to even come up with.

This honestly feels like a spinoff, and I really think it is one. I don't know. It does have to do with the Bacterians, but... Is this one? This one doesn't even have a proper "boss parade".

There isn't really much to say about this game, if you like the other gradius games you'll like gradius galaxies and if you don't then there's nothing about galaxies that will win you over. It's still probably the best shmup on the GBA - a console that was surprisingly very starved for games in the shmup genre.

An okay Gradius game that is held back by (surprise surprise) some annoying cheap deaths. If you die on most bosses, you won't even be able to get a single power-up. Fortunately, they are beatable without any speed-ups, but it still can get annoying.
