Last Command

The bullet hell gameplay is very well made with great visuals, catchy music and great boss fights. However the pacing of the game is completely destroyed by requiring exploration (which takes more than half your playtime) and a pretty boring story that feels machine translated. If I could play a boss rush mode that removes the exploration entirely, I'd give this game four stars.

This game is kinda crazy, in many senses, who had the idea of making a snake game bullet hell?? And how did they make it work so well?????
and the music too???????? Crazy game, recommend

Bought it based off how promising the demo seemed. Bullet hell and Snake is a pretty good combination at first and, for two chapters, its gameplay loop makes for some exciting boss fights. That said, it's short and, what's somewhat worse, reuses the same pool of bosses to an excessive degree. As a result, the game ends up feeling pretty shallow.

What brings it down to two stars, for me, is that boss gimmicks from the third chapter on are more irritating than engaging and the story takes a meta turn that is, essentially, "what if Undertale and Nier Automata were incredibly undercooked and then stuffed into a blender"? It all amounts to an experience that is less than the sum of its parts when its parts were, at best, a cut above average.

Combining Snake with bullet hell is an interesting iteration on each of the formulas, lots of times I've died and had the thought that in a normal SHMUP that pattern would be super easy but having to move around and collect data makes it more challenging. Story wise, the game starts off not super interesting, being relatively expected robot/AI tropes like dealing with existence not predating essence, but the ending at least moves things in a very different direction that I appreciate quite a bit, maybe a bit more than the average person would given that my mood today hasn't been positive.

Aside from the initial few programs I played through the whole game on expert mode.

A game with its heart in the right place, even if it falls flat on execution at times. Bosses are damn fun, loved Core-hime and Samurai.
