This game is really emblematic of the Master System library's problems: Even when they manage to make something competent, it fails to be much more than a 'Great Value' alternative.
Take Castlevania, strip the edge out of its difficulty, replace its awesome orch-rock music with generic PSG melodies, nix the oozing hollywood horror enemy design for stuffy victorian poltergeist shit, and triple the length of each stage. Sure it's still Castlevania-shaped, but where's the push-and-pull to the gameplay design? Where's the hook?
Limply stabbing blokes as a doctor will never compare to whipping demons with full-force as a sirloin-shredded twunk.
