DLC for Mortal Shell

Mortal Shell will be getting a DLC expansion called The Virtuous Cycle. In a teaser revealed at IGN Expo 2021, the soulslike RPG offered us a look at a rainswept building, a forest of moving trees, and a character with what looks to be a new weapon that can switch freely between spear, axe, and dual sword forms.

Буквально тоже самое, что и основная игра. Проходишь те же самые подземелья и дрочишь тех же боссов. Развод гоев на шекели, не иначе.

The new weapon and shell are incredibly good and fun to use, to the point where it's honestly quite broken and it makes the game quite easy. If you're struggling, you will enjoy the character and the weapon.

The Virtuous Cycle gamemode is just mediocre, but the achievements make the experience incredibly bad.
These achievements require you to do 90 billion runs (50 minimum, if you want me to be specific and minmaxing) because of RNG and the requirement to unlock skins which ask you to kill 5 of a specific boss (which basically translates to a minimum of 5 runs with that character) and almost every shell has this. Each run lasts for around an hour, even more if you have bad luck. You can get these objectives before the hour (aka kill boss -> leave run) but it is just such a stupid unnecessary drag.

I feel like if they just did the katana + shell then it would be a pretty good DLC, but sadly if you want to get 100% achievements you need to play through the Virtuous Cycle gamemode a lot, and it just sucks.

When you finish all the permanent upgrades at the runic gate and it still takes at minimum 40 minutes just to bum rush the first 3 bosses - only one of which actually poses any challenge (Crucix the Twiceborn) - and get to challenge the final 4th boss, repeated runs become really unfun. Also all the shell shades pale in comparison to the +20 base damage from Eredrim's Anointed Butcher so playing as the other shades for trophies/achievements makes you feel gimped to hell

Main problem boils down to how roguelike games just shouldn't take over an hour for successful runs - at least when every run is extremely samey like in this game and the failpoint is almost always the final boss (which doesn't change either). Makes losing runs very frustrating.

At least the axatana weapon that was added is very fun (but admittedly only because it's overpowered and buggy - the running attack should not be getting 3+ hits nearly every time)

Very buggy but it makes the already satisfying combat loop and feel of the main game a bit more interesting, if not outright ridiculous, like having passive explosion procs on hit with the Smoldering Mace

A rogue-like mode that's a good excuse to spend some more time in the Mortal Shell universe. The new shell and new weapon are a deadly addition! It can get repetitive after a short while since the map and the enemies - and, as far as I can tell, the goals - are the same, especially if you're like me and just finished two and a half playthroughs of the main game. I can see myself occasionally playing this DLC to uncover more lore, but it's not something that will hold my attention for long periods.

Makes the original game even better by adding a unique roguelike mode and more lore. Delicious 🤤
