Good to see a game set in a pre-colombian civilization that isn't mayan or aztecs. The biggest issue in my opinion is the combat, simple most of the times, but the lack of invincibility after being hit makes it easy to be stuck in attacks by multiple enemies without the ability to do anything to defend.

One of the lesser-known indie games of 2018 Mulaka used a rather fascinating inspiration for its story and world. You play as a Tarahumara Shaman, an indigenous tribe that occupied much of Northern Mexico. By using their culture and myths as the backdrop Mulaka offers an ingenious twist on the adventure game formula. By bonding with nature in the game world you earn the abilities to turn into various animals to run faster, attack harder, and soar through the skies. It was certainly an unpolished game and had lots of questionable design and platforming sections, but it sticks out in my mind as an inspired passion project amidst many of the other indie titles throughout 2018.

Man I wish this played better. There aren't nearly enough games (or any kind of media in general, really) that explore pre-Columbian civilization and myth like this game does so I liked it just because of how unique the experience is, but it just was not fun to play. It felt like a generic 3D action-platformer where nothing was finished.

The vision was there, but it wasn't well executed in my opinion. It do be looking pretty tho.

I respect this game a lot as the developers were clearly really passionate about their own culture and wanted to create a unique experience. They achieved that for sure but, it has quite a few shortcomings, unfortunately. To keep it concise, the gameplay can be clunky and super repetitive at times. The reason I mastered it was because it was so easy to actually do so.
