Unironically one of the better career modes in a racing game.

Ah, sweet nostalgic bliss (thanks Xemu).
Every kid who grew up in a Nascar family knows that the trifecta of Nascar games is Dirt to Daytona, Thunder 2004, and Chase for the Cup 2005. My pick has always been this one. I will die on the hill that Fight to the Top is one of the best career modes in all of racing/sports games.
This one is just pure childhood joy for me, from the era when EA still had to make an effort with their sports titles.

This is the exact video game that inspired a NASCAR racer to ram his car up against the wall in the middle of the turn for an extremely video-game-in-real-life style speed boost a couple weeks ago. I remember coming to the exact opposite conclusion when I was a child: Every AI racer takes the outside of the curves, going up on the bank, because that's what you try to do in real life. That left the inside curve wide open, which even a 10 year old could tell you was geometrically shorter and thus a quicker route. Once I figured this out, I never once ranked under first place. I always figured that the reason this worked in the game but not in real life was that the game's physics weren't very realistic in some way with regards to banked turns, but the AI was programmed to behave as if it were to sell the illusion. Shows what I know! Apparently this game's physics in banked turns were more realistic than real life! This is why I'm not a NASCAR driver. Or maybe it's because I played PS2 and he played Gamecube...

White people drive fast in a circle for 3 hours.

Awesome simulator racing game and possibly the peak of the nascar game series. Great career mode working your way through all the nascar cups and good customization for your career.
The car customization is fun and I like some of the management stuff. Really makes you FEEL like a nascar driver.

This was one of the first games I played as I
remember playing it sometime in the late 2000s on the gamecube. Nostalgic game for me and it takes me back to when I liked nascar the most. Since Dale Earnhardt JR left I never watched it much.

Solid 4/5

While shamelessly taking the drive through the lower reaches of stock car racing from Monster's NASCAR Dirt to Daytona, the game is very much designed around a smart and entertaining career mode, while also being a fantastic NASCAR game in it's halcyon days as a motorsport discipline.

Definitely the most enduring piece of media prominently featuring the NEXTEL brand.
