Edit:
The dev released a patch to fix the problem with the framerate and moving objects. The FPS has been maxed to 60. While 60 might sound low, the gameplay feels smoother and the bug has been fixed. I don't need to change my display's hertz to get around it anymore. So what's left? The hitbox with traps can be too much sometimes but it's not the end of the world with only that around. Also a true 1440p is still a big miss. That said, I managed to finish arcade mode with the newest patch. I can change the review from negative to positive. Thank you devs and happy 10th anniversary!

So first of all, this game has a lot of content. It's worth trying all the different modes. The levels are well designed and engaging. It's a platformer through and through. However, this game has issues. It's hard to pinpoint where the problem lies since I'm not a developer. But it feels like a mix of framerate, hitbox and other factors that play a role in making this an unpleasant experience. The game is really weird about input lag, the framerate on 60 fps looking jittery and the fact that you're forced to select 60 fps because of a bug with moving platforms. You freeze on those platforms unless you change your display's fps. You can't do this in the game, so you have to quit and do it in the display settings of your pc every time. This causes situations where you get hit by enemies even though you shouldn't, they somehow become invulnerable after you get hit causing the possibility of getting hit again, spikes or other 1 hit KO touching you while it feels like they shouldn't, easily getting stuck on walls/corners and other objects etc. I've tried many things to fix this including keeping my fps low and going from full screen to borderless. This doesn't seem to help besides fixing the aforementioned bug. The problems mentioned are not as noticeable in story mode but it becomes a real pain with challenges and arcade mode where one mistake is enough to make you retry the whole level again. It's extra frustrating on arcade because the levels become long gradually and it's tortuous having to do it all again because of one mistake. That's why I've given up on arcade mode halfway through. It would have also been nice if the game supported 1440p. There are horizontal black borders. Basically there are 2 groups with different opinions. If you're more of a casual gamer who doesn't care about getting 3 stars and only focuses on the story, then it's worth getting. It's often on sale for less than 1 euro. Do you like/have to complete games 100% with 3 stars and more? Then it's better to ignore this game. It's not worth the frustration. And it's a typical platformer. The store is littered with them. You really don't need to play this if it has this many issues.

If you enjoy side-scrolling 2D platformers, this game is a perfect palette cleanser to play in between harder games. The main story mode is fairly easy (including finding all collectibles) but interesting enough due to being relatively short and respecting the gamer's time. The difficulty goes up when playing challenge mode so this game offers a bit for everyone in terms of difficulty.

Gameplay is basic but effective, with precise controls that feature a double jump that allows for easy recovery and maneuverability to land in platforms. Level design is very dull but goes well with the simple nature of the game. Overall, I picked this game for less than a dollar during a Steam sale so for that price, it was well worth it and highly recommended if you are into classic side-scrolling platformers.
