Pac-Man: Adventures in Time

released on Oct 31, 2000

As in the original Pac-Man arcade game, the basic objective of each level is to guide Pac-Man through a maze while eating dots, unique food items, and power pellets that make Pac-Man's enemies, the Ghosts, edible for a limited time. The ability to jump returns from Pac-Mania for bypassing hazards and avoiding enemies. Some levels contain obstacles such as deadly boulders, animals who delay or kill Pac-Man, and explosive projectiles. After every few rounds there is a bonus mini-game in which the player can obtain some extra points (with every 50,000 points earning Pac-Man an extra life). The levels also feature a variety of shapes and architectural features such as cylindrical mazes, canopies, bridges, pyramids, and even walls that allow Pac-Man to walk vertically. The game features more sophisticated events than its arcade predecessor, such as collecting a certain number of pellets to unlock another area of a maze. The game also includes the ability to see the short intermission videos that come before a new level and allow for an option of non-storyline play on specific levels. The game also has the ability to connect over the Internet for multiplayer mini-games.

The best Pac-Man title to date, period. Now I know what some of you are thinking. Yes, Pac-Man World 2 is a classic 3D platformer in it's own right successfully transporting the eponymous hero into a completely new genre (more so than it's predecessor), but Pac-Man is about navigating mazes while munching on pellets and chomping on ghosts. Adventures In Time is the final evolution of this classic Pac-Man gameplay loop with creative level design: slopes, obstacles, multiple stories, zero gravity, and a plethora of different maze shapes and biomes. Traditional Pac-Man peaked here.

More inspired, fleshed out, and varied than Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness: a game I find comparable in it's presentation and approach to the character.

the best Pac-Man game to date with creative level ideas and terrains based on the various time eras

would be the best maze pac man game IF THE LIVES WERENT TIED TO YOUR SAVE FILE WHICH MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO GET STUCK WHOSE IDEA WAS THAT? The levels are all pretty memorable and cool with neat lil gimmicks involving the now 3D terrain which means theres like slopes, multiple vertical maze layers, and even gravity gimmicks going on. If the save file life thing wasn't an issue I'd even go as far as to say this is on par with the world games and ms. pac man maze madness. I bet if this got a console port it would have remained in the public consciousness for much longer.

i didn't hate my time here but i think the save system is frustrating, and about halfway through you can get a little bored. the cutscenes were cute though! pac-mans voice actor was funny. i also liked how the ghosts dressed up to match each areas theme.

i had an alright time but i also just like pac-man a lot, i don’t think this is gonna win any pac-man fence sitters over or nothing but it’s not a bad way to spend your time if u like the little yellow dude.

Maybe my favorite of the PC games I owned pre-GBA era (before I turned seven), with a solid campaign through different thematic worlds. My cousin Colin and I played the competitive modes a whole lot too. Grandpa was GOATed.

Pretty fun game overall! Adventures in Time takes a rather interesting spin on the Pac-Man formula, which is surprising for an early-PC era Pac-Man game. Fun mechanics, occasionally decent music, good graphics and multiplayer modes make this a pretty fun Pac-Man game. Some of my major issues include the awkward camera system (the way how it moves, making it hard to see where the ghosts are coming from, and it makes it especially hard to complete levels for the levels that disable the overhead view) and the tedious save system, which makes it frustrating to easily progress between levels, especially with the way how it also saves your current life count. Finished on the Normal difficulty.
