Runner is an arcade rail shooter with strong 80's anime vibes. The initial rush is exhilarating: riding a bike at 100MPH down a futuristic highway while shooting robots is really fun and feels very cool. Of course, it takes some time to get familiar with the controls for the myriad combat options. Some of these, like the blade and grenades, never quite seem to work the way they should. Coordinating defensive maneuvers with combat while also avoiding obstacles and hitting powerups is really taxing, and ultimately the levels are way too long and repetitive. A perfectly fine game, but feels more like a tech demo than a fully fleshed out experience.
I bought this at the PSVR2 launch and yeah, it's definitely a game you buy at launch to hold yourself over. Except there's no holding over, because the platform is dead. This game is just an on rails shooter. It's pretty fun, but it's incredibly easy and basic. It's fine for it's price.
