This one is interesting to me, as it's a game that's challenging, but also one that I found myself getting better at the more I played, as a lot of the mistakes were due to my own slip-ups and stuff. However, the more I played, the more I felt my hand drifting, and the more I kept hitting other keys on accident thinking they were the right ones, dying, and then getting frustrated.

The art and music is very nice, but the controls/limits of your powers are poorly explained, and a few of the design choices are a bit odd. For example, the invincibility frames seem to vary greatly for no discernible reason. There were times where I'd take damage and be safe for a few seconds, and times where I'd take damage and it'd be back to back hits. This would be a bit more passable if you weren't locked to three hearts for the entire game. Checkpoints are also spread kind of thin in my opinion, so dying sets you back quite a bit. And I did a lot of dying, as the only way to heal (that I found) was through the checkpoints. Enemies don't drop hearts, instead dropping cookies that are the currency used for power upgrades. However, you can only upgrade at specific locations, and in the hour that I spent playing, I only found one. And it wasn't anywhere near the starting area either, it was instead deep in a level. Not sure if there really is only one, or if there's more I didn't find, but if there are more, it's unclear where and when I was going to find the next one. Needless to say, this makes the cookies (and collecting them) feel kind of useless, especially when knowing the alternative could've been enemies that drop health when you kill them.

The first (and only one I reached) upgrade you get is for a 'charge shot' that allows you to charge up your weapon to do a double jump, but how this double jump works is not explained to the player at all, instead forcing them to experiment. However, because checkpoints are so far apart, there's no way to heal otherwise, and experimenting could mean having to start over, I found myself not wanting to try and figure out how something works, as it almost always meant having to die and get sent back a few rooms.

And on top of it all, the level/map progression is a bit confusing and locations don't tie together all that well. After beating the first boss, I went back to the starting area and kind of just... went in circles. I knew the power I had unlocked was used to destroy an obstacle in the first area, and after I destroyed it, I thought I was going to get the route to the second boss. However, it just looped back to the beginning, with no clear sign as to where I was supposed to go next, as the only other area (other than going all the way back to the part of the map with the first boss) seemed impossible to reach, even using the knowledge I had gained from the first boss area and the area I had unlocked back in the starting area.

But despite everything, I did have a lot of fun playing this game, at least up until the 1-hour mark, where I began to get frustrated as that was when the circling was happening. But at the end of the day, I don't really have the time (or all that much of a desire) to try and beat it right now.

Short Gato Roboto-vania game where a hungry Satan must navigate a surprisingly-homely Hell to get his cakes before the store closes. I'm a sucker for tight-controlling platformers that allow for a little bit of schmoovement potential, which Satan Loves Cake has in its "Charge Shot," which launches you away from the direction you fired it.
