Star Fox Command

released on Aug 03, 2006

Star Fox Command lets you hop into your fight through a unique branching storyline of missions, all rendered in gorgeous 3-D. This game brings a whole new strategic element to the series, with a commander's view of the mission. Using the touch screen, players can draw the routes they and their teammates will take. Battle the enemies they encounter as they take over bases and strategically advance across the map. Players can also blow their friends out of the sky, as they dogfight 8 players over a local wireless connection -- or take on 4 players from around the world on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Sympa et le lore est dingue, mais on s'attend à mieux, j'dirais.

Like its predecessor Star Fox Command wanted to try something new. Whereas Assault suffers from some bad gameplay decisions in an otherwise good game, Command suffers from repetitive gameplay and a branching story with no canon route that goes a little too crazy with its concepts.

Glad I finally made to play this one after all this time. Let's be honest: this is still better than StarFox Zero.

This said: I have some issues with how limited the screen feels at the point you can't see attacks in front of the AirWing. The touch-based controls are fine and feels more fluid than you would think.

This game has an insane amount of potential, and in some areas, it is impressive that they even got this to work. Star Fox 64 is such a great game, and to create a version of that game on a portable system like the Nintendo DS is downright incredible. There is an insane amount of content and replayability here, with multiple levels, ships & characters, and endings to earn and play with or through.

It is just a shame that the controls are not very fun to play with. I can understand the reasoning behind the control scheme, as this is a game that requires playing with analog and this is a game that does not have any analog control other than utilizing the stylus. It works, but it wasn't very comfortable.

The story was not very strong either. When compared to every other game in the franchise, it was much weaker and not as memorable. It doesn't change the fact that there are some really interesting elements here, and the amount of content here really is staggering, but it is hard to recommend due to the core issues here. It's not bad, but it could be so much more.

In what kind of alternate dimension does this game happen? How the fuck did they manage to fuck up the characters this badly? She renamed herself KURSED?!

Star Fox 64 is my favorite game of all-time, and yet Star Fox: Assault is the only other game in the franchise (having now played all of them aside from Guard) that I enjoy.

Throwing Command onto the pile of dislikes was a particular disappointment as I do love a lot of its ideas. The stronger narrative makes the branching paths of Star Fox all the more purposeful, and I love seeing this cast get fleshed out in the mini-continuity that the early-mid '00s attempted to offer Star Fox.

But what really turned me off from even finishing a single route here is the excessively frustrating strategy component; the map which feels more like a trial-and-error endeavor than a dynamic chess board. And when the reward for making the right move is a seconds-long All Range mission (the worst sort of Star Fox mission, imo), it's hard to push through the tedium.
